Redesign of Kurojyoka

This is a redesign of the kurojyoka, a traditional Kagoshima shochu ceramic teapot, to fit modern lifestyles. The traditional Kurojyoka was formed based on the Japanese hearth heating system, and its shape has remained the same despite changing lifestyles. This project is a continuation of Kagoshima's shochu culture and traditional craftsmanship by modifying this aspect and updating the kurojyoka to fit modern lifestyles.

Its design takes the process of transformation into a ritualistic act, engaging the user's all 5 senses to seamlessly shift between calligraphy surface and tea ceremony platform. The piece is hand-crafted, pursuing unprecedented wood thinness through masterful artisan techniques, relying on traditional wooden joinery techniques alone, without any metal components.

Extensive research in food preservation led to features like Fresco Zero and Pure Breeze UV, ensuring freshness and hygiene. The challenge was balancing prestige and performance, selecting durable, high-reflectance glass. Total No Frost prevents ice buildup, while LED lighting enhances visibility. Adjustable shelves and door balconies maximize storage flexibility.
